Indeed, just a little feedback here:
I'm in a similar position; we use Nessus here as part of a suite of
pen test methods, some commercial, some not. It was never truly
necessary for us to move to a paid-subscription based model, since the
two week lag between free and paid was tolerable.
But this change in licensing is one of those "exclusive" changes,
meaning it ends up pushing a number of clients out unless they opt to
pay the yearly licensing fee.
From my point of view (I'm sure quite understandably), I would have
preferred an "inclusive" change in licensing, perhaps a sweetening of
the direct-feed deal, or maybe few bits of paid functionality. A good
results-parser and converter in the client immediately springs to
mind. As long as the free, delayed feed was kept intact for
commercial use.
I might have even been drawn in by a mildly snarky expansion of the
two week feed into three or four, which would make it unusable for us,
thus making paying for a direct feed something less than completely
unpalatable.
But to simply eliminate the agreement that we've been dependent on
entirely (even with the discount and two months notice) is a little
harsh, and it throws into steep question whether we'll be using Nessus
in the future.
Sincerely,
James
