Get out your Charles Darwin and read, start an office sweepstake
on the outcome
1) everything is fine, it turns out all that effort patching was
totally not needed
2) everything comes crashing down around you, manager gets a surprise
promotion and is never heard of again. You get told to patch
everything now or join him
3) people get fed up of ongoing mayhem and install something else that
appears to not have a problem

Sometimes it does but "told you so" doesn't count for anything,
knowing means you're somehow supposed to have prevented it
If you can't fix the problem then share it, perhaps there's lots
of free effort in user land willing to do things themselves if
given the tools
