I wrote a freebie tool like this for hardware and software asset management.
It does not do patch management although it will expose all systems with a
particular patch installed.

Since it is free and I lack the degree of modesty required to simply keep my
mouth shut, here's how you get to it:

Basic documentation is included in the archive and I highly recommend that
you actually read the README.TXT file before attempting to run the tool. The
results will simply make much more sense that way.

A more comprehensive discussion so that you may understand and tailor the
tool for your own purposes can be found at
<http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=339>

I've never used it against an Integrated AD implementation but it does work
quite well in mixed mode and Windows 2000 Integrated.

A quick hint for you, too; the two most important scripts at work in this
package are domainreportmanager.vbs and inventory.vbs.
HardwareReportCompiler.vbs is there to aggregate the information in all the
resulting system inventories into 4 basic classifications of data.
Therefore, the hardwarereportcompiler is a text based 'query' tool and can
be replaced by other scripts looking for specific data in those inventories
as you need.

Give it a look and feel free to write me if you need help or don¹t
understand my lazy English. Otherwise, good luck and I'm happy if I've
helped!
