The French side now have immigration kiosks at Waterloo, and certainly
the last few times I've travelled by Eurostar they have checked my
passport. UK side have similar desks at Gare du Nord, and again they've
checked my passport every time recently.
Then again, I've flown on BA a couple of times recently without having
any ID checked. That was after picking up the boarding card from their
self-service machines. They may be happy enough that a known credit card
was used for purchase (which you have to insert into the machine), and
perhaps also that I'm in their frequent flyer club...
