I often wonder why the Home Office acts in the arrogant way that it
does, despite the friendly front end sometimes attached. So far I have
not found an answer to my question. However, those that think the Home
Office is a reasonable and fair-minded organisation which can be dealt
with by normal methods might like to consider the story at
http://www.guardian.co.uk/race/story/0,11374,1071465,00.html, which is
about Home Office attempts to prevent the BBC telling us about racists
in the police.

Yes, I must say the statement from the Home Office to the effect:

"Gieve accused the BBC of using 'a degree of deceit that might be necessary in dealing with a totalitarian regime'";

seems to be potentially ironic to the extent I wonder if irony was intended. Anti-government subversion in the H.O.?
