expecting people to invest in new subscriptions and new tools (let
alone new platforms). It's only topped by trying to shift the workflow
model from off-line ASCII to online HTML.
I agree, that's why I suggested something that has an plaintext nntp
interface.
New subscriptions, new tools (in particular migrating to nntp rather
than email, and having a newsreader that can access more than one server
at once). I prefer a "news" type interface, and the threading that
implies. But most of the world seems to stick doggedly to email. It's
also a dubious practice to rely on a proprietary 3rd party system,
however tasty it might be.
