I completely agree. I think it would actually be good practice for the
authors (not necessarily a moderator job) to change the subject of the
thread when it makes sense. If nothing else to break the monotony of the
threads.
I am subscribed to many list and I don't read all the messages that get
posted. However, keeping meaningful subjects helps me choose which post I'd
rather open and follow up.

Actually, things would be much improved if people changed the Subject
headers when a thread has drifted off from its original intent. Perhaps if
a team of moderators did nothng other than retitle such threads, things
would be much improved.
