I've never met anyone who stopped eating eggs,
Two things happened as a result of EC's lecture in home economics.
- Sales of eggs plummeted in the short term.
Yes, but not amongst anyone I knew.
- Mass catering practices which had previously involved the use of raw eggs
were either abandoned or modified to use pre-cooked or processed eggs.
Arguably safer, but not likely to reduce consumption.
not even the person who
contracted salmonella poisoning from eating an infected egg for
breakfast in a posh hotel [6 months before the Edwina incident].
I see. When surrounded by armed police, the bacterium said, "OK. It's a fair
cop. I dunnit. I conned my way in on an egg".
Very considerate of it, all in all. No doubt the officer in charge of that
investigation received a commendation.
The hospital took samples, identified the bug, looked up the incubation
period, and narrowed it down to a couple of meals. Only one of which
contained potentially suspect ingredients. I think an inspector was sent
round.
As for "control", it certainly made me more conscious of controlling the
hygiene in my kitchen when cooking [just as many as before] raw chicken.
Nuts. You just need a stronger immune system - which, by observation, is
maintained best through lifelong exposure to reasonable bacterial
challenges.
Not sure I wish to immunise myself with live salmonella, thanks.
